the biorefinery commences operations
The Southwest Finland Biorefinery marks a new era in the energy industry, producing cost-effective, sustainable fuels for heavy traffic, ships and industry. All this is achieved in an exceptionally sensible, competent and collaborative manner with local farms.
The biorefinery planned for Oripää is large enough to be economically viable. The refinery processes 600,000 tonnes of feedstock annually: manure, field biomasses, and clean side streams from the food industry.
“The operating model of the Southwest Finland Biorefinery is unique. It is a significant part of the energy industry, not just waste management.”

Project progress
Planning for the Southwest Finland Biorefinery began in early 2025. The project will take about two years from idea to investment decision. We are working to ensure that the biorefinery can start operating in 2029.
